About Simplify Life Magazine

Stressed out, overworked or just plain tired of keeping up with the Joneses? You’ve come to the right place. We are all about enjoying life and finding simple solutions to everyday problems.

We are not against acquiring stuff per se. Some stuff is very useful and can improve your quality of life greatly. We are against acquiring stuff for the sake of acquiring stuff. It appears that happiness is not measured by the amount of money spent. And often it’s just the opposite.

We aim to explore the benefits of acquiring less stuff as well as sharing strategies on how to do that. While the journey might be difficult, leaving Joneses behind will truly set you free.

How messy is your closet?

We all have stuff. Probably way too much stuff. Some stuff is useful and necessary, sure. Yet most of us only use a small fraction of the stuff we own.

If we could learn to only buy the stuff we really need, we would benefit in so many ways. As individuals and as a society as well. Just saving money or not going into debt would be benefit enough for most people. But there are a lot more benefits to owning less stuff. Study after study has shown that acquiring more things makes people less and less happy.

Learning to shop smart is not that easy, however, since we are constantly bombarded with ads trying to convince us that we need this or that. We will share strategies and ideas and would very much welcome comments, suggestions and your ideas too.

For starters, may we ask you to do a very simple exercise. Take a fresh-eyed look into your closet. Do you wear all the clothes you have? How about shoes? Do you use all the purses? Now try and estimate how much money you have spent on the stuff you don’t use. Write down the number and stare at it for a while.

When the shock wears off, please come back, we will deal with it little by little.
